Installation
------------

1. Download WinBoard from 
          http://www.research.digital.com/SRC/personal/Tim_Mann/chess.html
   and install it (this is Tim Mann´s graphical user interface for many 
   chess engines)
2. Download ChessterfieldCL, unzip it and copy all the unzipped files to a directory
   of your choice 
3. Open the WinBoard.ini file in the installation directory of WinBoard with a text
   editor and add the following strings to the engine section: 
          ChessterfieldCl /fd=\"C:\\DIRECTORY_OF_YOUR_CHOICE\" 
          ChessterfieldCl /sd=\"C:\\DIRECTORY_OF_YOUR_CHOICE\" 
   Hint: If you are not quite sure on how to do this, please read the online help
          included with WinBoard 
4. Start WinBoard and select ChessterfieldCL from the drop down box in the
   WinBoard startup dialog

- The ChessterfieldCL chess program is freeware. 
- There is absolutely NO WARRANTY for the program. 
- The entire risk as to the quality and performance of the program is with you. 
- You may give ChessterfieldCL to your friends, as long as you don' t charge a fee. 
- It is illegal to modify the program without my permission. 
- There is no support for this program.

What you should know about ChessterfieldCL

- ChessterfieldCL is an experimental chess engine with many known shortcomings
  concerning playing strength 
- There is NO graphical user interface and you must download WinBoard to use
  ChessterfieldCL 
- There is a probably unique evaluation function that is based on a simplified
  neural network 
- ChessterfieldCL has learned ALL its positional chess knowledge from games
  played against other WinBoard engines and from analysing some endgame databases
